Hokay so, for the past month ive been in Croatia. I left my car in the garage battery still connected and everything normal. It sat in there for the past month with no one starting it or anyone even opening the garage to let it air out. So the battery obviously died.(BTW, this battery is pretty much brand new, I got it in December) Yesterday when I got back I jumped it and let it run for half an hour. Did a quick trip around the block, and put it back. That brings me to today. I went to go start it, but I forgot about my fuel pump kill, so I killed the battery when I tried to start the car again. (only took two attempts to kill the battery) I go and jump the battery again, and this time I let it run again for half an hour. I turn it off, and start it up again with no problem. So now I go crusin for another half an hour. I notice that my car is slightly giving white smoke. I shrug it off thinking it might have something to do with the humidity. I get back home, and left the car running for a bit while I tidy up some stuff. Now I decide to go pick up my sister at work so I can have an excuse to drive somewhere. I notice how hot it is so I blast the ac for a few minutes. As I left I put the AC back on the lowest setting. About 5 mins. later im sitting at a light and notice that my temp gauge is reading just below full. So I turn off the ac, and decide to drive alittle slower. A few seconds later I get stuck at another light, this time on a hill. So im reving my car and slightly easing off the clutch pedal every few seconds to keep the car rolling forward. At this point I notice alot of nasty smelling white smoke, and people are looking at my car in a bad way. The temp gauge is now at the highest point, and im driving around thinking that somethings gonna break. I get to my sisters job, and shut the car down for a few minutes. About 5 mins. later she comes in, and I turn the car on. I notice the gauge climb to full, and then start going down. So I drive home with no AC and not driving spiritedly, and I get home fine. The whole time I had the nasty smelling white smoke, and the gauge stayed right around the middle area. So im really mad now, because I officially think my headgasket has taken a shit on me. I havnt checked anything yet, because im still letting it cool down. Any insight is appreciated. Also, if it hadn't been for my parents forcing me to go to Europe, then I would've made at least $1000 which would mean that I couldve had all the money to prep and swap a SR. Not to metion that PBM got its shipment of coilovers when I was away. They sell out in a day, so I have to wait until the next shipment comes which is in November. SO NOW IM 4X4, SLOW, AND I THINK MY ENGINE IS DIEING. FML [/rant] |

Did it still have coolant left in it? Sounds like you smoked the headgasket and warped the head. If you could smell sweet and the smoke was white its coolant. |

All the fluids are at appropriate levels. I still haven't been able to check the rad because its still to hot. But there is an appropriate amount of coolant in the reservoir. Later on im gonna check if my coolant is mixed with any other fluid. Im not sure how to describe the smell, but it smells similar to how my car smelled last winter when it was burning off carbon in the exhaust. My cousin said that the thermostat might have jammed since it was sitting for so long. And that maybe I should tap the housing with a hammer slightly. Maybe tom ill flush the rad and put a new tstat in, because I dont know when or if the previous owner ever did. |

So the car finally cooled off enough to take off the rad cap. I looked at the fluid, and saw a very faint swirl inside. It was very slight, so I dont think oil is really mixing with coolant. Also I noticed the smell is similar to power steering fluid. |

So me and my cousin were looking at some stuff yesterday. -Oil looks perfect -The smell is probably due to the car sitting so long, and he said that if it was my headgasket it would be alot more smoke, -Since my coolant tank is cracked, my coolant always stays around the "min" mark because any higher and it leaks out. So apparently I need more coolant. -Coolant must be old as hell, as well as the thermostat ****Theres a sticker on the piece that covers the underside of the hood that says you have to press clutch and release it for 3 seconds at a time. Your supposed to do this if you are using the AC after the car has sat for a week or more. I never even herd of that, but it might have something to do with the overheating. So im gonna buy one of those aluminum coolant tanks off ebay. Then im gonna flush the radiator, and put a new thermostat and coolant in. Do 240s need any special coolant, or mixture? I assume that i could just buy a bottle of coolant, and then go 50/50 with water right? |

Replace the stat, flush the radiator, fix the overflow and while your at it replace the hoses and clamps. Fill with one gallon of DISTILLED water, and one bottle of redline water wetter, then top the rest off with coolant (not mix, green stuff), burp it all out, and then bleed the system. (should end up with a 60/40 mix Get a coolant fill funnel, cost 2 bucks, fill with distilled water and slowly squeeze the top and bottom hoses, keep doing this over and over, you will see small bubble and air pockets find the way out. DO THIS WITH THE FRONT END JACKED UP. After your done burping its time to bleed it. Take a 2 liter soda bottle, and but the bottom off. wrap some electric tape around the top so it fit snub in the radiator fill neck, pinch off overflow hose. Fill the bottle about halfway with more distilled water / coolant mix and turn the car on, heat on too. After 5-10 minutes open the bleeder valve slowly and any trapped air will come out, as you let the air out coolant will come with it, that's why you have a bottle ticking out the top. So open the valve a few secs then close, wait a few open bleed, then close. Do this until no more air comes out. Shut off the car, remove the crap, put the cap on, and fill the NEW over flow. (ebay ones are fine) End result, clean system with new t stat and hoses, about a 60/40 water coolant mix with redline added bled. |

My car didnt have a thermostat in it..... Also, the antifreeze/coolant I got is yellow, but on the bottle it says that for that it will work with any vehicle and any required color. |

Ok, so I finished everything. Car still goes to the marking right before "H" on the temp guage. But it only does so if I put the AC on full blast. Maybe this is normal? It also took longer to get to that marking then it did before. |

def not normal. is your secondary fan kicking on when you turn the ac on? also is your radiator clean from debris? and check your condensor too. bad air flow is prob the culprit. |
