Okay so my KA is starting to act real weird and I am wondering if it is the Fuel Pump or the actual motor going. Here is my situation: When the car is at idle it will drop to really low levels like to the point the car almost stalls. When it does this the car will shake if I give it gas it starts to go away. Every now and then when it is doing this it will sound like the car is jumping up and back down in idle kinda like and older muscle car that has been cammed. When I start driving how ever this goes away, but then a new problem starts in 1st and 2nd gear when I get to 2k threw 3k the car will skip and lag like its not getting fuel. It feels like its hitting a wall. I am thinking it is my fuel pump due to the fact that I can get the car to rev past 5k in or out of gear. So Any one have any ideas as to what could cause this? |

its sounding like a sensor. check your tps sensor. and see if its not manfunctioning. also do you ahve a fuel pressue gause? if so check to see that its staying steadyu. this doesnt sound like a fuel pump issue. but its sounding liek its starving for fuel. and the tps tell tehs ecu how much to put in at a certain throttle position/load. so thats why im thinking that.. |

Also check your idle air control valve. It may not be the cause of your 2000rpm issue but it may be the cause of the idle issue. My focus had some wild cams in it and the IAC valve couldn't react fast enough so it did that muscle car idle. On a side note, how much fuel did you have in the tank when this started? Have you filled your tank since this began? Did you buy your fuel from the same location you always fill up or did you buy from a new place? Was the station some chain franchise (Shell, Valero, Sunoco) or some mom and pop kinda place? I ask because it could be as simple as you getting shitty gas or water in your tank. As a cheap "just in case" fix, as soon as you can, add a bottle of ISO HEET to your tank then top it off with fuel from a reputible station. The heet should take care of any water that may be in your tank. Remember that water sinks to the bottom of your tank so you'd be sucking it up when everything settles. |

get serious on the back of the intake manifold are you kidding me? Start with your tps which is on the opposite side of the throttle cable on your throttle body. use a multi meter and probe the center 3 pin wire then put the other probe on a good ground. you should get a reading of .5volts +-.05 volts. if you are reading 5.0 volts or zero get a wiring diagram for a ka tps and make sure your probing the correct wire and that the wires are in the correct location compared to the tps. if your reading like .8 volts adjust the tps it will fix your problem. next make sure you have no intake tube leaks is from the maf to throttle body. Then check you base timing, you do this by A getting a timing light and hooking it up then you have the car at idle and pull the tps sensor plug off the idle should change and now you should point the timing gun at the crank pulley and it should be set at 15 degrees. if all thats good then you possibly have a Iacv problem bu keep in mind if when you checked your tps voltage it read .3 volts or less your throttle stop is worn from high milage and you have to adjust the stop then set the tps. You need all the tools to set the tps from above plus a 8mm and small phillips screw driver. adjust the set screw with the engine running till the idle picks up then adjust the tps and Iacv to set the base idle at 750+ rpms. I Highly doubt you have a fuel pump problem. |
