I've been reading/commenting on this thread, and it's something everyone should read. http://www.clubloose.com/clubloose/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=4738 So would anyone like to explain to me how preloading works? I'm lost.

*TURTLE POLICE* Posts: 2,426 Group: Members Member #90 Joined: May 31, 2009 Location: lansdale pistolvania My Ride: MKIV GTI VR6speed	i dropped $730 at R/T Tuning to get my car aligned. it consisted of ordering inner/outer tie rods, boots for the inners, ball joints, labor, and alignment. the appointment is for friday so hopefully all goes well alignment at r/t is $200 because of the aftermarket suspension arms and coilovers. normal shops wont even touch my suspension. ive been going through front tires every 2months or so and it fukkin sucks hard. so i figured since i had the moneys im doin it Edited by turtle240, Jan 5 2011, 05:06 AM.

*TURTLE POLICE* Posts: 2,426 Group: Members Member #90 Joined: May 31, 2009 Location: lansdale pistolvania My Ride: MKIV GTI VR6speed	preload for coilovers is when you put a certain amount of force on the spring before you put the coilover on the vehicle. sooo, when taking a given corner, the cars suspension doesnt need to travel as far because the coilover already has a set amount of preload. it will only start to travel after it hits that force that was preloaded on the coilover. thats a basic description. you can also preload different suspension arms too, for example: 240sx tension rods need to be installed a specific way or you will ware out the bushings really quick. when the suspension is off the ground you need to compress the suspension so it simulates the weight of the car, then you install the tension rod. feel free to correct me or chime in with other examples.... I talked to a guy at the local dealership and he is going to hook me up and take care of it all. for no more than $85 as long as i dont end up needing anything lol
